SOME ACTIVITIES OF WODECO

WODECO participates in radio and television phone in programmes on women issues and on on the challenges, problems and governance issues confronting Nigerian women.

We also celebrate special days set apart internationally to celebrate special events like the International women’s day which is the day set apart in honour of Elimination of violence Against Women; We carry out sensitization and awareness creation programme to celebrate World’s AIDS day every first day of December.

We also organize educative symposia and workshops on Drug adherence and Healthy Living for People Living with HIV and AIDS and we organize workshops on Electoral processes, gender based budgeting and other governance areas to address the challenges and map out strategies and ways forward.

WODECO also benefited from the EU INSIDE’s capacity building for non-state actors in Southwest Nigeria in January 2012; we also participated in the World Social Forum in Senegal in February 2012 and also monitored the elections.

Our organization participated in the 1ST Gateway Women’s Summit to celebrate 100 years of International women’s day Celebration organized by the Ogun State Ministry of Women affairs in 2012.

In readiness for the elections, WODECO sensitized the public on Women’s Participation in Election to enhance the capacity of female politician/candidates for effective participation in party nomination and general election campaign process in South West Nigeria

In addition, two international European Union observers visited WODECO’s office to familiarize with NGO & understand the polity at the grassroots’ level. On March 27, WODECO was one of the NGOs that presented the People’s Manifesto & Sealed Social Contracts with Ogun State Gubernatorial Candidates

Our organization was the Ogun state coordinator of the Hundred Women Project that was set up to mobilize women and strategize for their full participation in elections. 

WODECO monitored the House of Assembly and Presidential Election Monitoring in order to protect people’s vote and for transparency and paid host to the EU international observers for the second time to compare notes and share experiences.

As a member of Publish What You Pay, WODECO took part in NEITI Civil Society Organisation Training in South West to sensitize the civil society on how to promote transparency in extractive industries.

WODECO also hosted the Policy & Strategic Plan crew from the Institute of Strategic Studies based in Jos who came to familiarize themselves with NGOs on their oversight functions. We also participated in a workshop on Gender Budgeting in Ogun State by WARDC to prepare us to engage the Government on Gender budget ting and accountability.

As part of our effort at poverty eradication among women, WODECO organized an Interactive forum with Bank Executives to share experiences, challenges, strategies & ideas on micro finance for women and to encourage banks to give soft loans to women. WODECO also played host to the Agric Bank Monitoring team who came to monitor the disbursement of loans it gave to WODECO’s women’s microfinance groups in August.

Our organization is also involved in giving soft micro loans for income generation to women who cannot get loans from commercial banks because of their stringent demands and conditions.

Furthermore, WODECO was invited by the Civil Society Consultative Group to participate in the Second External Implementation Status and Results (E-ISR+) Project in Nigeria through Third Party Monitoring of FADAMA III Project in four LGAs in Ogun state.

Our organisation also participated as a third party monitor for the opening of procurement bids in the Federal University of Agriculture and Federal Medical Centre both in Abeokuta.

WODECO is a member of the Committee that monitors the mass immunisation exercise in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
